Monroe Fire Officials Offer Free Smoke Alarms

They're also going to start sending out smoke alarm request cards with the city water bills.

MONROE -- The Monroe Fire Department says there were no fire related deaths in 2013 in the city.
Chief Terry Williams says  he wants to make sure that happens again in 2014.

The fire department is offering free smoke detectors to homes throughout Monroe.  They're also going to start sending out smoke alarm request cards with the city  water bills.

"When the citizen receives a postcard all they have to do is just check a block that says 'I need a smoke alarm in my home' and just drop it in the mail.  We'll respond the that citizen and go out and install those smoke alarms," says Chief Williams.

The fire department also plans to use rescue alert stickers. The sticker should be placed on a window of the home to let first responders know how many people live in the home.
