INDEPENDENCE, La. (WDSU) — A 13-year-old Girl Scout with special needs was found about an hour after being reported missing from a camp in Independence on Saturday, officials said.
The girl was in fair condition with minor injuries, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office. She was reunited with her family at Whispering Pines on Highway 1054 and taken to a medical center.
The girl was found struggling in a lake by a helicopter searching the area. Capt. Stuart Murphy and a U.S. Customs co-pilot jumped from the helicopter and rescued the girl from the water.
