Louisiana’s Private Sector Adds Jobs; October Unemployment Drops

Louisiana’s private sector added 36,500 jobs over the year through October, the 38th consecutive month of over-the-year job gains. And the state's unemployment rate dropped slightly to 6.5 percent in October.
West Monroe -- Louisiana’s unemployment rate improved in October for the second straight month to 6.5 percent.

That’s an improvement of 0.3 percent from the revised September 2013 rate of 6.8 percent, and 0.5 percent better than
the revised August rate of 7.0 percent.

The October 2012 unemployment rate was 5.9 percent.

The national unemployment rate in October was 7.3 percent, up from 7.2 percent in September but down from
7.9 percent a year ago.
