MONROE -- If you're a woman, when was the last time you scheduled yourself for a health exam?
Physicians and nurses from both University Health Conway, the Northeast Louisiana Cancer Institute, and the ULM Nursing School were all on-hand at Oncology Associates in Monroe to offer free pap smears and clinical breast exams.
Medical leaders there say they were making sure every woman had access to this care.
"This is open to any woman, insurance or not, because a lot of women have insurance, but they have a very high deductible, but they skip those annual screenings," said Donna Nolan with the Louisiana Cancer Foundation. "We average about 300 women in four hours screening them."
The partnership between the Northeast Louisiana Cancer Institute and University Health Conway allowed any patients discovered with the cancer warning signs to be fast-tracked to the hospital that same day.
"Any issues that would require further evaluation will be fast-tracked into our hospital and followed through fruition to find out and get to the cause of the issue," said Stephanie Rivers with University Health Conway.
