MONROE -- On Saturday, if you had a canned good -- you could get a free flu shot.
Dozens lined up at the Monroe Surgical Hospital this morning for the flu shot drive.
Glenwood Hospital and Monroe Surgical hosted the drive, encoraging people to give a canned good in exchange for a flu shot.
Organizers say it's just as important to keep people healthy as it is to ensure they are not hungry.
"The flu season goes from October through May...So December is the peak month, but you can still get your flu shot even after today," said Dee Smith, Infection Control Nurse for Monroe Surgical.
All canned goods are being donated to the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana.
