MONROE -- An early morning run for children's cancer research kicked off at Forsythe Park in Monroe on Saturday.
It was the first-ever "Poker Run" by a local organization called "Team Willpower."
Folks could either run a 5K or bike for 10 miles while raising money for cancer research.
100% of the proceeds went to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
"I do a lot of 5K running and there'a a great cause for every one of them. Selfishly, I think that St. Jude Hospital deserves every bit of recognition that they get for what they do," said Mike McGee of "Team Willpower."
"You're able to have a sharing of what your experiences are, maybe a support team for something that that athlete is going through in their life," said special guest runner, "Team Refuel's" George Melichar.
"Team Willpower" is an organization made up of a family who put on the "Poker Run" in honor of their son, William McGee of West Monroe, who died from his battle with cancer and was treated at St. Jude.
The family said they hope to make the "Poker Run" an annual event.
