Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge in Union and Ashley counties shut down Tuesday.

Gates are locked and campers were told to pack up.

Meanwhile 18 of their employees have been furloughed.

"My staff, you know just like everyone else has mortgages they have child care, college tuitions to pay and a lot of em have just that single pay check coming in” said Michael Stroeh, Felsenthal Wildlife Refuge.

Right now only a handful of law enforcement officers are working to keep 65 thousand acres closed.
