Smackover, AR --  The Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources will host a fall festival and retro Halloween event Saturday, October 26, 2012, from 10am -2p.m. This fun family event will make memories to last a lifetime.

During the 1920s when south Arkansas was hustling and bustling with the activities of oil boom, Halloween was a huge sensation. Today Halloween is seen as a holiday for children, but during the “Roaring 20s” it was more for adults. Community parties and parades were planned and the tradition of “Trick-or-Treating” became popular. Festival goers to the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources will play some of the same games as were played during the by-gone era.

There will be carnival games with prizes, cakewalks at 11:30am and 1:30pm, bingo and several activities with take home materials. Participants can make a monster, be it scary or funny – the only limit is your imagination. Maybe a spider is more to your liking; make it however you desire and whatever color – the choices are endless. A fire pit will be available to roast marshmallows or purchase a hot dog and roast it as well. Make sure and test your skills at bobbing for apples.

There will be an exhibit displaying facts about the holiday and why it is celebrated today. The entire family will enjoy story telling at 10:30am and 12:30pm, stuffing a scarecrow or hearing your fortune from Ms. Cleo, a world famous seer of the future.

Children of all ages are encouraged to wear a costume. Two costume contests will be held for children ages 0-3 and 4-8. Times for the contests are at 11am and 1pm. Prizes will be awarded in each category.

Admission is $3 for adults and $5 for children under 15. Youngsters under age 2 are free.
