Winnsboro Budget Battle Continues

WINNSBORO (KTVE/KARD) -- In Franklin Parish on Wednesday night, the budget battle continues in Winnsboro.

The Board of Aldermen is still making changes to the coming year's budget.

At Wednesday night's special meeting, the board made amendments to the budget.

They voted to recover $16,000 in revenue and returned it to the city's Industrial Fund.

A big amendment that had some aldermen concerned was the vote to transfer $475,000 from the city's Sales Tax Fund to the General Fund.

Some aldermen said more conservative decisions should be made with the budget.

"We've transferred too much money from one fund to another and the reason, no one was able to explain that to me tonight," said Winnsboro District 4 Alderman Craig Gill. "We need to stop spending. We're spending too much money and that's gotten a lot of towns our size into trouble."

At the meeting, Gill and other aldermen questioned that large transfer when the city posted a $230,000 in just the last month.

The budget was officially introduced and will go before a public hearing in the next 30 days before it's considered for adoption.
