CNN -- A new study finds that kids' "weight-fate" may be determined by the time they are five years old.
Researchers from Emory University looked at more than 7,700 children who were in kindergarten in 1998 in the U.S.
They weighed and measured the children seven times over a nine-year period.
Researchers found children who were overweight when they were five were four times more likely to become obese during that time period than kids who were at a normal weight.
The study was published this week in the New England Journal Of Medicine.
It was funded by the federal government.
