WATCH: Peach Festival Introduces Shop Local Passports

Visitors to the Louisiana Peach Festival are encouraged to explore the local restaurants and shops in Ruston.
RUSTON -- The Louisiana Peach Festival is celebrating 64 years of family fun in Ruston.

Deana Sherrill, a Peach Festival administrator, says,"Mitcham Farms began it way back and it has just grown so much every year."

This year there is a new addition to the Peach Festival that encourages visitors to shop local by visiting Peach Stops.

"Basically its the passport where you can around to the different stores in downtown Ruston and get a stamp on the cards. Then you can enter it tomorrow. Just drop it off at one the main gates to be entered for a thousand dollar drawing," says Sherrill.

Local businesses say they have seen plenty of new faces in their shops thanks to the Peach Festival.

The owner of Chartreuse Pear Boutique,Travis Lee, says,"Every year at the Peach Festival it seems like there is a jump in sales because you know the focus is on downtown Ruston and people kind of exploring to see whats all here."

Kelly Hogan, the owner of The Fashion of Ruston, adds,"That is whats great about the Peach Festival is we always see new faces and then we also have a lot of you know friends that live away that come home every year."

A boutique owner says the Peach Festival is a great time to explore the shops and restaurants around Ruston. "This is a great time of the year for Ruston. It really gets to shine, especially downtown. A lot of people have been coming in from all over the area," says Lee.

One visitor came from Shreveport to see the festival and Ruston for the first time. Roberta Baker, a visitor to the festival, says,"There are a lot of neat little stores with a lot of unique items. We already went to the orchid and bought some cartons of peaches. Its been fun."

Peach Festival organizers encourage people to check out everything the festival has to offer. They say Ruston won't disappoint.
