UPDATE: Victim in Critical Condition after Shooting in Monroe

A man is in emergency surgery Monday night after a shooting in Monroe.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m. -- Monroe Police Investigators said they now have a person of interest in the case of a shooting that injured two people Monday night in the 4300 block of Barlow Street.

Investigators said they've developed Xavier M. Thomas, AKA "Doc," as a person of interest.

However, investigators said they do not have any charges filed at this time.

Authorities said Thomas possibly lives in the Miller Square Homes.

The victim who was shot in the back of the head remains in stable but critical condition as of 2:00 p.m. Tuesday. The other victim was shot in the back and was released from an area hospital with minor injuries.

UPDATE 11:30 a.m. Tuesday -- Monroe Police released they responded to a reported shooting at 5:30 p.m. Monday that happened in the 4300 block of Barlow St.

Their investigation revealed there was an argument between one subject and the father of the subject's girlfriend.

Police said the subject left the scene but returned shortly afterward with three other subjects to retrieve a cell phone that had been left behind.

During the second meeting, according to the police, the dispute between the boyfriend and the father of the girlfriend continued. The boyfriend and three other subjects were leaving the scene in a vehicle when shots were fired from the scene at the vehicle.

Police said one bullet struck one of the subjects in the back area leaving a minor graze wound, but it continued forward and struck another subject in the rear of the head.

The two gunshot victims were taken to an area hospital by a private party. The victim who was shot in the back was released after being treated for minor wounds.

The victim shot in the back of the head underwent emergency surgery and is listed in critical but stable condition.

The boyfriend and other subjects in the vehicle were uninjured.

Monroe Detectives investigated the scene for several hours and spoke to several witnesses and it is unclear at this time who fired the weapon.

Police said they're following up on several leads to identify the shooter and the investigation is ongoing.

The victim was shot in the head but is still alive.

Detectives told KTVE/KARD they are still on the scene trying to talk to witnesses and gather evidence.

Authorities said they do not have any suspect information at this time.
