UPDATE: Tallulah Mayoral Race Grows to Eight Candidates as Qualifying Closes

New candidates have qualified for the Tallulah Mayoral, meaning the race will be postponed until May.

UPDATE 4/01/2014: On the last day of qualifying, two new candidates have tossed in their hats for the race for Tallulah Mayor.

On Tuesday alone, two women officially qualified to join the mayoral race.

They are two Democrats: Felicia Dawn Williams of Tallulah and Jann Williams-Buchanan of Tallulah.

The candidate total for the race for Tallulah Mayor has now been raised to eight.

The death of Tallulah Mayor Eddie Beckwith, Jr. last week reopened the qualifying period for the election until the end of Tuesday.

Williams and Williams-Buchanan join new qualifiers Gerald Michael Lott, Jr. (NP) of Tallulah and Sandra Cannon-Scott (D) of Tallulah, who both qualified on March 28th.

These new qualifiers join candidates Paxton Branch, Arthur Lee, John Reed and Adell Williams who have been in the race since February.

Election day is May 3rd.

UPDATE 9:30 p.m. -- Another candidate for Tallulah Mayor has just qualified to join the race.

No Party-affiliated candidate Gerald Michael Lott, Jr. of Tallulah qualified for the race on Friday.

He joins Democratic candidate Sandra Cannon-Scott, who also qualified for the mayoral race on Friday.

Along with them are Paxton Branch, Arthur Lee, John Reed and Adell Williams, who already had places on the mayoral ballot. They are all Democrats.

The qualifying period was reopened after the death of incumbent Mayor Eddie Beckwith, Jr. on Thursday. Beckwith, Jr. had been running for a third consecutive term.

Qualifying will continue until next Tuesday. These new qualifiers mean the primary election will be postponed until May 3rd.

Tallulah -- A new candidate has qualified for the Tallulah Mayoral, meaning the race will be postponed until May.

Sandra Cannon-Scott qualified today to run as a Democrat.

Qualifying for the Tallulah Mayoral race was re-opened after the death of long time Mayor Eddie Beckwith.

Beckwith was 64 years old.

Qualifying will remain open through Tuesday.

The primary election will be held on May 3rd.

Four other candidates are also running.
