UPDATE: Monticello Teacher Arrested for “Inappropriate Contact” with Student

A Drew Central High School teacher is facing charges for having inappropriate contact and communication with a 16-year-old female student.
Monticello -- Police say 57-year-old Helen Banks of Monticello, is charged with 2nd degree sexual assault.

Police say a 16-year-old female student at Drew High School, informed them that she had been touched by the teacher on numerous occasions in her private areas.

She also informed police that the teacher had kissed her.

Authorities add the teacher and student were in constant contact via email.

According to the Drew County Sheriff’s Office, Banks admitted to the crime charge.

"Right now we'll submit our case file to the prosecutor, which we've been in contact with him. We'll send it to him. He will make the official charges, and then we will start the court process. First thing would be the first appearance," says Nichols.

Banks is currently out on a $25,000.00 bond.
