EL DORADO (KTVE/KARD) -- El Dorado Fesitvals and Events, is working with the city to close down Jefferson Street.
This closure is part of a project to make downtown El Dorado an arts and entertainment district.

A key part to this is the Rialto Theater.

The Rialto will be getting remodeled in hopes of revitalizing the once famous vaudeville theater.

"We are planning on a lobby extension that's going to be attached to the Rialto. So, the closure is a necessity to move the building out to that area. This is the first real big step towards accomplishing this goal."

"We've gone through the public hearing. We've gone through the third and final reading of just one block of closure. After that, and after 30 days, they'll be able to start the construction on the Rialto."

In order for the ordinance to pass, at least 6 of the 8 council members must vote in favor of it.
