UPDATE: Arrest Made in May 6th Jonesboro Store Fire

Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office says an arrest has been made in connection with a fire that burned down the Deals and Discounts Furniture Store in Jackson Parish on May 6th.
UPDATE 9:30 p.m. -- The State Fire Marshal's Office confirmed to KTVE/KARD an arrest has been made in the May 6th fire that destroyed the "Deals and Discounts" furniture store between Jonesboro and Hodge.

KTVE/KARD first reported the State Fire Marshal's Office secured a warrant for the arrest of the store's owner, 38-year-old Miriam K. Gunter of Jonesboro, on Thursday evening.

Authorities report Gunter contacted State Fire Marshal investigators and agreed to a self-surrender, turning herself in to the Jackson Parish Sheriff's Office at 7:25 p.m. Thursday.

The State Fire Marshal's office believes Gunter allegedly burned her own store down to collect the insurance payments.

Authorities said Gunter has been booked into the Jackson Parish Jail, charged with Arson with Intent to Defraud.

If convicted, the State Fire Marshal's office said Gunter could face up to five years of hard labor and a $10,000 fine.

This arrest comes after a more than two month-long investigation involving the State Fire Marshal's Office, the Jackson Parish Sheriff's Office and the Jonesboro Fire Department.

Investigators say they have secured a warrant for the arrest of the store's owner, 38-year-old Miriam K. Gunter of Jonesboro.

The warrant charges her with Arson with Intent to Defraud.

The Fire Marshal's Office believes Gunter set fire to her own store in order to collect the insurance payments.

This potential arrest comes after a more than two month-long investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office and the Jonesboro Fire Department.

KTVE/KARD first reported the fire became an arson investigation on June 11th.

Gunter's bond will be set at $10,000.

The State Fire Marshal's Office said they are actively pursuing this warrant. They tell KTVE/KARD they expect to have Gunter in custody by the end of the day.
