MONROE, La. -- Southwood (Shreveport) High School standout Chelsea Tieuel recently signed a scholarship offer to join the ULM women’s basketball program.
Tieuel was the lone starter to return for the 2013-14 season and she finished her final prep season averaging 21 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Southwood claimed the District 1-5A title after posting a 10-0 league mark. The Lady Cowboys finished the season with an overall record of 23-7 and made an appearance in the LHSAA State Playoffs.
“We are very excited about the addition of Chelsea Tieuel to our program,” said head coach Jeff Dow. “She established herself as one of the premier wings in Louisiana during her high school career and to have her sign with ULM as part our first recruiting class makes it that much more special. We’re looking forward to the versatility that she will provide us on the perimeter with her ability to knock down 3’s as well as finish around the rim.”
Tieuel’s strong play in 2013-14 earned the future Warhawk a total of five post-season honors. She was named First Team 1-5A All-District and was honored as the district’s Most Valuable Player. Tieuel landed a spot on theShreveport Times’ All-City First Team and she was named All-State by the Louisiana High School Coaches Association (LHSCA) and the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association (LSWA).
In 2012-13, Tieuel and her Southwood teammates claimed the Louisiana 5A State Championship. Following her junior campaign, Tieuel was named First Team 1-5A All-District as well as Second Team All-City by theShreveport Times. Tieuel was part of Southwood’s back-to-back Louisiana State Championship runner-up teams (2011 & 2012).
