ULM Even Series with 17-12 Win over Texas State

ULM scored a season-high 17 runs as the Warhawks outlasted Texas State for a 17-12 win Saturday night at Warhawk Field.
MONROE, La. -- ULM scored a season-high 17 runs as the Warhawks outlasted Texas State for a 17-12 win Saturday night at Warhawk Field.
 
Texas State took an early 2-0 lead as it plated one earned and one unearned run in the top half of the first inning.
 
ULM responded in the bottom half of the second inning as the Warhawks plated four runs to take a 4-2 advantage after two innings of play. An inning later, the home team tallied five runs (all unearned) to push the advantage to seven runs at 9-2.
 
The two teams traded big innings and after six complete innings, the Warhawks owned a 14-7 lead, before the teams continued to post big numbers. In the seventh and eighth innings, the Bobcats plated five total runs, while the Warhawks tallied three runs to set the final tally at 17-12.
 
ULM reliever Jared Dye (1-1) earned the win as he allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work. Carey Taylor and Tyler Bray combined to close out the game on the mound.
 
Texas State starter Taylor Black (2-4) was tagged with the loss after allowing 11 runs (five earned) on 12 hits with two walks and five strikeouts in five innings of work.
 
The two squads will battle in game the third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch at Warhawk Field slated for 1 p.m.

  • Dalton Herrington set a career-high with five runs scored Saturday night.
  • Chet Simoneaux and Anthony Herrera each set two new career-bests in the win… Simoneaux had six RBI and four runs scored while Herrera had five hits and five RBI.
  • The 29 combined runs were the most this season in a game involving the Warhawks… It was also the highest total since ULM and South Alabama combined for 33 runs on March 23, 2012.
