Twin Cities to Host Louisiana State Games

The Twin Cities are chosen as the venue for the Louisiana State Games festival.
WEST MONROE, La. -- The Twin Cities are chosen as the venue for the Louisiana State Games festival.

The sports festival for amateur athletes is scheduled for May 10th through the 31st.

It's open to Louisiana and Arkansas residents.

Participants will compete in various sporting events such as disc golf, boxing, and baseball.

The Monroe - West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau says the extra traffic through Ouachita Parish will boost local business.

"There's 34 summer games," explained Scott Bruscato with the Monroe-West Monroe CVB. "There's 10 winter games. This happens all over the country. So, we're going to become one of those states that are hosting a summer-type olympic festival. We're very excited. It's going to impact both Monroe and West Monroe, the entire Ouachita parish."

The event is similar to the International Olympics, which promote health, fitness, and character building.

Winners will for the State Games of America.
