Suit Filed in Favor of Common Core

A group in favor of Common Core standards have filed a lawsuit against Governor Bobby Jindal.
Baton Rouge -- A group in favor of Common Core standards have filed a lawsuit against Governor Bobby Jindal.

It accuses the Governor Jindal of violating the state constitution by issuing a series of executive orders and contract suspensions aimed at undermining Common Core.

The suit seeks a temporary injunction lifting the governor’s orders.

The suit was filed on behalf of a group of parents and teachers in support of Common Core.

Louisiana Superintendent of Education John White issued this statement.

"Neither BESE nor the Department of Education is a party to this lawsuit. However, with school starting in three weeks, it is critical that our state resolve as soon as possible the issue of who determines the content of state tests."

This is the second suit filed concerning Common Core. On Monday, 17 state lawmakers, who are opposed Common Core standards, filed a lawsuit saying BESE failed to follow state rules when it approved Common Core in 2010.
