South Arkansas Law Enforcement Take Part in Spring Training

Two law enforcement agencies have come together to improve their tactics, in case of an active shooter situation.

El Dorado -- The El Dorado Police Department and the Union County Sheriff's Office spent the last two days running their officers throughout mock scenarios.

Each officer must figure out how to apprehend the suspect, while keeping themselves safe.

During these trainings, shots are fired from guns, but the officers use paint instead of actual bullets.

The course is set up to simulate the inside of a house.

After the officer completes the scenario they are critiqued on how they did.

"This is important for our officers to go through continuous training on handgun usage to know when to shoot and when not to shoot. You are always concerned about what's around you before you discharge your weapon" says El Dorado Police Captain Kevin Holt.

Captain Holt says the department looks forward to this training every year, and they have proven to be very beneficial for the officers.
