SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL, www.arklatexhomepage.com) -- Melvin Slack, who has announced his intention to run for Shreveport mayor was arrested on several charges Friday morning stemming from an alleged hit and run.
In January a witness reported seeing Slack hit a car owned by, Mae Evans, at Galilee Baptist Church. The witness said he instructed Slack to leave his name and phone number on a piece of paper and place it on the car. Evans said the paper was not on her car when she left the church. Evans reported the incident to Shreveport police.
On Friday Shreveport police pulled Slack over in his vehicle based on probable cause as a result of the investigation into the hit and run.
During a search of the vehicle officers confiscated marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, hit and run, and for not having insurance.
