Sheriff Lee Harrell has fired a corrections officer accused of sexual misconduct.

Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at approximately 5pm, Richland Parish Sheriff’s personnel received a complaint of sexual misconduct from an offender incarcerated at Richland Parish Detention Center.

Allegations were made against a Richland Parish Detention Center Corrections Officer, assigned to the Transportation unit.

Today, Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at approximately 10:30am, C/O Christopher C. Moore 41 years old of Columbia, LA was arrested for two counts of Malfeasance in Office; sexual conduct prohibited with persons in custody; LA RS 14:134.1.  Moore was terminated upon arrest and after providing a confession.

Moore is a veteran of 18 years of law enforcement and he began his career with the Richland Parish Detention Center in March 2007.

Sheriff Lee Harrell stated, “I am saddened today to make this press release but I have said from the beginning I expect more from law enforcement personnel and I will not tolerate corruption or misconduct.  I receive no pleasure from arresting our own.  It disgraces all that wear the badge.”

Sheriff Harrell quoted Teddy Roosevelt, “No man is above the law and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man’s permission when we require him to obey it.  Obedience to the law is demanded as a right; not asked as a favor.”
