U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu announced that the National Park Service awarded a $337,000 Civil War Land Acquisition Grant to the Louisiana Office of State Parks to purchase an addition 228 acres of land to expand the Mansfield Battlefield in Mansfield, La.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., Chair of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, today announced that the National Park Service awarded a $337,000 Civil War Land Acquisition Grant to the Louisiana Office of State Parks to purchase an addition 228 acres of land to expand the Mansfield Battlefield in Mansfield, La. The National Park Service's American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP) provided the grant.

"The Mansfield Battlefield remains an important part of Louisiana’s history, and it is worth preserving," Sen. Landrieu said. "Today’s funding will make sure that future generations of Louisianans will be able to visit the site to appreciate the history made there.”

The funds were made available under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2012, which appropriated $8.9 million for the Civil War battlefield land acquisition grants program. Sen. Landrieu voted in favor of this funding that makes today's grant possible and secured a $41k grant for the Mansfield Battlefield under the same program in 2013.
