Rep. Vance McAllister Assigned to Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee

Washington D.C. -- Congressman Vance McAllister will be sitting on the Agriculture Committee and Natural Resources Committee.

“Louisiana has vast interests in both agriculture and natural resources, so I am very excited to serve as Louisiana’s voice on these committees,” McAllister said.

The House Committee on Agriculture oversees a vast range of agricultural issues, ranging from crops and insurance to education, nutritional assistance, and rural development. The decisions made between the walls of the Agriculture Committee have a significant impact on the residents of Louisiana. “Historically, culturally, and economically, agriculture is the backbone of Louisiana’s economy. When decisions are being made that could impact the lives, jobs, or health of the people of Louisiana, I am thankful to have the opportunity to stand up for them.”

McAllister said passing a common sense Farm Bill is one of his top priorities as a Member of Congress. “It is unacceptable that we have yet to enact a modern, respectable Farm Bill to provide assurance to the people who depend on this legislation for their livelihoods.”

Like the Agriculture Committee, the Committee on Natural Resources has significant authority and oversight over a number of economically vital Louisiana interests. The Natural Resources Committee has jurisdiction over issues including energy and water, public lands, mineral rights, environmental regulation, and wildlife and fisheries. “Louisiana is among America’s richest states in natural resources, and Louisianians depend on Washington adopting smart strategies to utilize and protect these precious resources. I look forward to working toward achieving responsible policies involving the assets Louisiana holds dear.”
