CNN -- Senator Rand Paul is taking the Obama White House to court.
The Republican from Kentucky says he's filing a class-action lawsuit against the administration over its surveillance programs.
According to a statement on Paul's website, the NSA inspects billions of phone records and e-mails every day.
He's calling on phone companies and internet providers to stop the snooping.
Paul and his lawyers will have their work cut out for them -- previous federal courts have determined the NSA programs are legitimate.
Regardless, Paul is expected to run for the White House in 2016 and this move could draw favor from hundreds of thousands of civil libertarians.
