Politics and Country Music Come Together in South Arkansas

A political candidate for Arkansas is using country music to market his campaign.
EL DORADO --Tom Cotton, Republican Senator candidate for the 4th district of Arkansas, made his way to El Dorado Friday afternoon.

"El Dorado has been a great city. It's been a lot of support here going back to my congressional race two and a half years ago. It's always great to be back in South Arkansas," says Cotton.

Cotton says El Dorado is one of the biggest cities in his voting district, so it was important for him to come out and make a presence.

"We want to turn out more supporters, get some more volunteers, recruit more folks to team Cotton, and then hopefully that will translate to lots of votes in November," says Cotton.

Tom Cotton took his campaign trail to the country music stage and got country music star Jo Dee Messina to perform a live concert, here in El Dorado, on his behalf.

"She's a country music star, so she's very well known, lots of fans in the area and she's also a Republican. She's done other concerts like this for other Republican candidates, most famous Mitt Romney. So we are just very excited to be able to bring her to El Dorado," says Cotton.

"I was surprised, it was a good thing. It's good for El Dorado and we appreciate it," says Williamson.

Cotton will be in Magnolia, Arkansas for an event tomorrow.
