New Fire Station Planned for Monroe Regional Airport

There are more improvements coming to the Monroe Regional Airport.
Monroe -- There are more improvements coming to the Monroe Regional Airport.

The city council is set to vote Tuesday night on a resolution to advertise for bids, to build a new fire station at the airport.

The new station is set to be built next to the new terminal, placing first responders closer to the runways and allowing for a quicker response to emergencies.

It will also better accommodate the new fire truck that the airport got last year.

"The trucks we are getting now, they're much larger than they used to be and the facilities we have now are not really designed to accommodate such large equipment. But this new station will defiantly accommodate this equipment and give us more room” said Monroe Fire Chief Terry Williams.

The $1.4 million station is completely funded by the state. Construction is expected to begin in June.
