MONROE, LA -- Monroe Police officers have arrested a man for felony theft.
The incident happened on 105 Sterlington Road at Jackpot Bingo.
Police said an unknown black male suspect entered the business and took a money box containing approximately $7,100, then fled the scene.
During the investigation, MPD patrol officers and detectives were able to develop Malcolm Butler as the suspect.
Police said they followed multiple leads and were able to track Butler down at 2000 Peach Street where he was detained.
After detectives mirandized Butler, he first refused to cooperate but eventually admitted to the crime and produced $7,085.00 of the stolen money.
The money was returned to the victim and Butler was transported to OCC where he was booked on felony theft.
