The Monroe Housing Authority (MHA) is founded on the belief that decent, safe, and affordable housing are central to the physical and emotional health, the productivity, and the self-esteem of the people it serves.

Recognizing its responsibility to maintain physical properties, while affording dignity and respect to every individual, the objective of the Monroe Housing Authority is to improve the quality of life through a community partnership which promotes decent and safe neighborhoods.

Through our partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, (HUD), the Monroe Housing Authority is in the process of renovating many of our projects to promote energy efficiency thus decreasing utility costs to the residents; and, lowering operating costs.

MHA employees and residents are actively participating in a variety of recycling and conservation programs.

MHA owns and manages 1,522 residences for lower income family housing which includes 230 residences for the elderly and 30 residences for the developmentally disabled. In addition, MHA administers Section 8 (Housing Voucher Choice) subsidy programs for another 1,495 families. The Monroe Housing Authority also manages a collection of 620 non-profit and tax credit residences for senior citizens.
