UPDATE: Jonesboro Councilman Bonds Out of Jail

A Jonesboro Town Councilman is facing gun and drug charges after his arrest in February.

UPDATE March 11 1:30 p.m.:  Jonesboro Councilman Lastevic Cottonham has bonded out of jail.

Cottonham was arrested in late February and charged with Driving under suspension, possession of marijuana and illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

His bond was set at $11,500.

His arrest came as an investigation was ongoing into an alleged rape that took place at his home.

Investigators say this arrest was not connected to that case.



UPDATE Press Release from the Jackson Parish Sheriff's Office Concerning the arrest of Councilman Lastevic Cottonham:


Arrested February 27, 2014 at 10:16 am for Driving under suspension, possession of marijuana and illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

The bond on the driving under suspension is $500, the bond on the possession of marijuana is $1,000 and the bond on the illegal carrying of a weapon charge has not been set.

LaStevic Cottonham is presently incarcerated at the Jackson Parish Correctional Center where he will await a 72 hour hearing at which time the District Judge will set bond.

This arrest is unrelated to the ongoing rape investigation.



Jonesboro -- Jackson Parish Sheriff Andy Brown tells KTVE/KARD that Jonesboro Town Councilman Lastevic Cottonham was arrested this morning.

Sheriff Brown says Cottonham was arrested after being stopped driving with a suspended license.

Cottonham is now facing three charges, illegal carrying of a weapon, driving under suspension, and possession of marijuana. 

Bond has been set at $1,000 on the marijuana charge, and $500 on the driving under the suspension charge.  

Brown says bond on the firearm charge will be set by a judge. 

Cottonham is currently being held at the Jackson Parish Detention Center. 

Brown says this arrest is in no way connected to the rape investigation that occurred at Cottonham's home last weekend.
