RICHLAND PARISH (LSP Release) -- On April 22, 2014, at 8:00 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on Whitehall Road south of Louisiana Highway 15.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 16-year-old, was traveling north on Whitehall Road when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by 34-year-old Brandon Rushing of Rayville, that was traveling south on Whitehall Road.
Rushing suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Richland Parish Coroner’s Office. The juvenile was properly restrained and was taken to a hospital in Rayville with minor injuries.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The juvenile was issued a citation for driving left of center. The crash remains under investigation.
While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Always remain buckled up while in a vehicle, regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road and always obey the speed limit.
Troop F has investigated 9 fatal crashes which have resulted in 9 deaths so far this year.
