Escaped Inmate From MS Captured in Monroe

An escaped inmate from Jackson, Mississippi was caught last night in Monroe.

MONROE -- An escaped inmate from Jackson, Mississippi was caught Tuesday night in Monroe.

According to deputies, 36-year old Michael Holder was seen driving without a license plate visible and having a broken headlight.

Holder is originally from West Monroe but was serving time in Mississippi for charges involving manufacturing meth, according to the arrest report.

He took off, pushing speeds of 70 miles per hour on Richard Drive in Monroe. The speed limit there is 25 miles per hour according to the arrest report.

At the end of Richard Drive, the arrest report says Holder turned around and struck the police unit while trying to drive past. 

He ended up crashing into a canal off 18th and 19th streets in Monroe. The arrest report says Holder continued to flee on foot but was captured.

Holder is being charged with aggravated flight from an officer and being a fugitive from justice.
