For the 9th year, the Bayou State Trailriders Association will make the week long, 125- mile journey from the Monroe Civic Center to Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Honorable Mayor James E. Mayo will be the Honorary Trail Boss on the ride leaving out of Monroe. Anyone wanting to come out and meet the riders or to just watch as they leave out are welcome.

Riders from Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Mississippi will come together for this grand event. They will leave from the Monroe Civic Center at 8 am Sunday, April 7. They will camp in Archibald, Winnsboro, Sicily Island, Ferriday and St. Francisville on this long journey. Also along the way they will stop at Winnsboro Elementary, Franklin Parish Headstart, Concordia Parish Headstart, Ferriday Elementary and Bain Elementary in Scottlandville.

When you think of a cowboy, you envision a set of values; independence, simplicity, courage, toughness and grace. Modern cowboys hold these same values sacred. Horseback riding perpetuates the traditions of the past but it is a present-day recreation. Combine the pleasure of riding and a noble and worthy cause and have the ingredients for a magnificent event.

Monies raised for this event will go to students enrolled at Southern University's agriculture program and LSU Veterinary School. Over the past 7 years the Bayou State Trailriders Association has given over $10,000 dollars in scholarship money to students to continue their education. They are expecting over 75 riders to leave the Civic Center on the ride this year. The ride is open to anyone that enjoys the outdoors and horses. If anyone is interested in riding one day or the entire week they are welcome to join. Single day fee of $10.00, two day fee of 15.00, or 35.00 for the week.

Remember, the ride will leave at 8 a.m. so come early. For contacts about the ride you may call Justin January 318-348-6087 or John Cole 318-537-1271.
