In recognition of extraordinary contributions from our Ouachita Parish senior citizens in this community, the West Ouachita Senior Center will be hosting its "Annual Older Americans Month Celebration", Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the West Monroe Convention Center. Once again, Mr. Sidney R. Wilhite and sons, Ross and John Mark, will be our Platinum Sponsor for this largest gathering of senior adults in Northeast Louisiana. The Wilhites' "Floy Antley Wilhite Memorial" is in honor of their beloved mother, grandmother, and an extraordinary classroom educator.

Over 1,000 Ouachita Parish senior adults (ages 60+) are expected to attend this spectacular event. This celebration will feature special live entertainment, including dancing, comedy skits, and vocal performances from talented seniors in the community.

May is "National Older Americans Month - a tradition dating back to 1963 to honor and pay tribute to the many ways our senior citizens continue to strengthen our nation. This year's theme is "Safe Today. Healthy Tomorrow." Older Americans Month celebrations will acknowledge the value that older adults continue to bring to our communities by making an effort to applaud recent achievements of local elders and inviting them to share the activities they do to unleash the power of age.

Many community businesses and individuals make contributions to the West Ouachita Senior Center during the month of April, which is WOSC's annual fundraising month. These contributions greatly assist in providing Community Supportive Services to senior adults and needy families in Ouachita Parish.
