UPDATE 12/31:

Monroe police say the next step at this point is the bond hearing for Hart, Jr. that should take place in the next 72 hours. There is a possibility that the holiday could push that until Thursday or later.

Hart will need to go before a judge to get his bond set. In the meantime, he is currently being held in the Ouachita Correctional Center.

Police say there were early allegations of the attempted murder charge against Hart, Jr. However, police officials say as the investigation unfolded, the charge was found to be unverifiable.

Monroe Police Sgt. Mark Johnson reports the house Hart, Jr. was holed up in Monday night was searched.

To Johnson's knowledge, he said there have been no reported negative incidents between Hart, Jr. and his wife that would have led to him holding her against her will over the weekend and being charged with kidnapping and sexual assault.

Johnson said the two have been married since September.

UPDATE 11:05 PM

Monroe Police have brought Dean Hart, Jr. into custody around 11 p.m. Monday night, after an hours-long standoff.

Police said he cooperated fully in the surrender.

Police also confirmed that the woman he is accused of holding hostage and assaulting this weekend is his own wife.

Sgt. Mark Johnson with the Monroe Police Department said Hart has been given full legal representation and will have his day in court for the kidnapping and sexual assault charges. If convicted, police said Hart could face 40 years in prison for the kidnapping and a possible life sentence for the sexual assault.

Officials said a force of 25 police officers were used in the operation today. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Just moments before, police were working to get another close personal friend to enter into negotiations with Hart.

KTVE 10's Nick Lawton is still on the scene. We will update this article with more information as we get it.

UPDATE 9:45 PM

Police report negotiations continue with Hart. They said he remains not a threat.

As of 9:30 p.m., police said Hart became less engaged with the efforts of his family's negotiations and said he isn't coming out because he doesn't want to go to jail.

Police said he remains lucid as negotiations continue. We're told the situation between police and Hart has been going on for more than 12 hours now.

UPDATE 8:45 PM

Monroe Police continue their negotiations.

They say time is working for them and making any entry into the home would be a last resort.

Police say the suspect is heavily armed with multiple assault rifles inside a home on Oak Alley Blvd.

Residents are being allowed to pass in and out of the neighborhood entrance on Bienville Drive.

UPDATE: The family has confirmed with KTVE/KARD that the suspect inside the home is Dean Hart, Jr. We're told he is the son of Dean Hart, Sr., who was killed in a plane crash last January in Richwood.

Hart Sr. owned Hart Commercial Investments with Hart Jr., and was killed with four other passengers when a Beechcraft Bonanza plane went down near a Richwood neighborhood.

Monroe Police say negotiations are ongoing with the Hart inside the home, which is in the Louisianne Subdivision. He remains barricaded inside and armed.

Police said members of the Hart's immediate family are on scene to aid in negotiations. His mother was seen helping police.

"We don't want anybody hurt, and those negotiations are ongoing," said Sgt. Mark Johnson with MPD. "We've offered him an attorney."

Charges have been clarified to just sexual assault and alleged kidnapping.

Monroe Police say no other people have been harmed, although Hart has said that he would hurt himself.

Since 4 p.m., police have had a perimeter set up. Detectives and negotiators are in phone contact with the suspect.

"We're not trying to push the suspect into any rash incidents or anything like that," said Sgt. Johnson. "We just want him to come out and talk. Whatever happened this weekend, he'll have the opportunity to tell detectives."

Police say all the neighbors are doing fine and sheltered in place. We spoke with neighbors who say they feel safe because of the large police presence and response.

KTVE/KARD is working to confirm the name of the suspect.

MONROE -- Monroe Police say a heavily armed man held a woman hostage inside a home over the weekend. She escaped, but police are now trying to get the man to surrender.

The incident between police has taken place since 7 a.m. this morning at the subdivision on Oak Alley, at the corner of Broadmoor and Bienville.

Police say they believe the man held the woman against her will over the weekend and somehow she was able to escape Sunday night. She came to a hospital and reported the incident, which led police to the man. Both the man and the woman are in their 40s.

Police are currently negotiating with the man to surrender. Police believe the man is inside his own home and that he has not hostages currently.

The man is wanted for kidnapping, sexual assault, and attempted murder. His identity is not being released at this time.

KTVE 10's Nick Lawton is on the scene. We will update this article as the story develops.
