8-Year Old Beekman Boy Fatally Shot After Mishandling Gun, Officials Say

An 8-year old boy has been fatally shot after he and his brother were possibly playing with a gun, according to the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office.
BEEKMAN -- An 8-year old boy has been fatally shot after he and his brother were mishandling a gun, according to the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office.

MPSO officials say round 5 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a 911 call to a home on Vaughn Road in the Beekman community. Officials say neighbors called 911 after hearing commotion in the home.

Sheriff Mike Tubbs said when deputies arrived, they found an 8-year old boy fatally shot by a shotgun.

Tubbs said the boy and his 14-year old brother were at their home alone after school, and investigators are looking into the case as mishandling of a firearm.

Child Protective Services and MPSO are continuing their investigation and interviewing the boys' parents. No arrests have been made.

The 8-year old boy's body has been sent to Little Rock for an autopsy.

Tubbs said after investigation is complete, the sheriff's office will forward it to the District Attorney's office.
