Monroe -- 72 years ago Friday, General Claire Chennault led the first allied victory against Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Monroe and the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum were chosen to kick off the national campaign of the 70th anniversary of World War II ending.

Although the anniversary is in 2015, they are getting started early to involve the young generation.

"Every single warbird in America is being asked to fly locally to show the young people of America and everyone else the air power that was used to end World War II" said Jerry Yellin, WWII Veteran.

Jerry Yellin flew in the first and last combat missions of World War II.

Today he was able to get in one of the fighters for the first time since 1946.
