MONROE/WEST MONROE -- The 8th Annual Krewe of PAWS Mardi Gras Pet Parade is almost here, upcoming this February 15.
The festivities will be held in the usual spot at the corner of Commerce and Wood Streets in West Monroe in the Antique Alley area.
The PAWS Grand Marshal this year is Executive Editor of The News-Star, Kathy Spurlock and her Certified Therapy Dog Gumbo.They will lead the parade around the route which will form a big rectangle around Commerce Street, Pine Street, Trenton Street, Wood Street and back around to the staging area.
Pre-registration for the parade is now open. Registering early for a free Krewe of PAWS t-shirt.
Pre-registration entry fees are $20 for the 1st pet and $5 for each additional pet (no horses or ponies). Deadline for pre-registration is January 31.
If you register on the day of the parade, entry fees are $20 for the 1st pet and $10 for each additional pet (t-shirt is not included). Registration on the day of parade starts at 11 a.m.
KING/QUEEN Contest - Your pet could be crowned King or Queen and would help lead the parade in a decorated golf cart (along with their owners).
Each entry into the King/Queen contest is $5 per pet and you can enter as many times as you like. You must register for the parade in order to enter this contest. The deadline for the King/Queen contest is January 31. Winners will be drawn and announced on KTVE, on February 3rd at 6:40 a.m.
COSTUME/FLOAT Contests - Enter your pets in the costume or float contests. Prizes will be awarded for Best Small Dog, Best Large Dog, Best Non-Canine and Best Float. Please enter your pet in the costume OR float contest but not both. Entry fees are $5 per pet for costume contest or $5 per float for the float contest. Contest judging starts at 12 p.m. Winners will be announced directly after the parade.
KIDS GAMES - Kids games with prizes start before the parade, so come early starting at 11 a.m. Visit our ticket booth to purchase game tickets.
Don't forget your beads! Bring beads or cups to throw or purchase beads when you arrive. PAWS will be selling four dozen beads for $10. Please do not throw candy or small trinkets, they are a danger to the pets.
Parade line up is at 1 p.m. and the parade rolls at 1:30 p.m. but be sure to come out early and visit the sponsor booths, browse the PAWS merchandise table, let the kids play some games and check out all of the creative costumes and floats! This is PAWS' largest fundraiser of the year.
