Green Right Now

This would have been a really good week to switch to heart-healthy oatmeal .

BelVitaFirst, glass shards turned up in Kellog’s Special K with “red berries”. Then at mid-week, came two reports of metal mesh fragments in Heartland Granolas and belVita breakfast biscuits. Look, those conveyor belts need to run FAST.

Not all varieties or packages are affected. So again, the cereals to watch out for:

  • Kellogg’s Special K with red berries (glass shards)
  • Heartland Brands Harvest Spice and Fruits & Nut Harvest Granolas
  • BelVita Breakfast biscuits in the Apple Cinnamon and Chocolate varieties. More details below.

Our family barely missed out on the belVita roulette. I packed a package of the-not (yet?) recalled Golden Oat variety in a lunch box this morning.

Below are the Food & Drug Administration reports on Heartland and belVita, and the voluntary recall by Kellogg’s. Please watch out for those red berries, I mean, glass shards. (The berries really are freeze-dried strawberries, according to the label. I’m not sure why they don’t just say “strawberries”?)
