Bulldogs Prepare for one of the Country's Best Offenses in North Texas

The Bulldogs burned Rice in the last minute of action, which was capped off by Trey Spencer's interception that was returned for a score.

But, it was Tech's defense that was scorched early in the second half, with Rice touchdowns in the first three possessions.

"I think it was us getting too lax, and getting too comfortable, not playing with the same passion, " says Louisiana Tech linebacker Dae'Von Washington. "[It's] something we're correcting this week. So, hopefully we come out and finish the game [this] week.

"They took advantage of some things, " says Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz. "We weren't doing a million checks and they made some nice adjustments at halftime to overload some things."

After a down performance seven days prior, J'Mar Smith responded with a QB rating of 80.8 - a season high.

"Really there weren't a lot of big chunks of yardage, " says Holtz. "It was him, kind of pinpoint accuracy, throwing the ball and controlling it underneath, which is what we felt like we needed to do because of our defense, which was on the field so much with the long drives they [Rice] had in the third quarter."

The road to bowl eligibilty will be a challenge.

It begins with Defensive Coordinator Blake Baker and his men going toe-to-toe with the 19th best offense in the country, in North Texas.

That includes quarterback Mason Fine, who's 13th in the nation in total yardage.

"[Mason] is doing some things, " Holtz continued. "He's not the size and power - he's doing it different ways. He's a tough son of a gun. He'll stand in there and hold the ball. He'll throw it accurate, he'll take the hit at the same time. He's not afraid to take off and run with the ball too."
