Incumbent Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu is facing a challenge from Congressman Bill Cassidy.
Both have claimed victory in the fight to undo some of flood insurance premium increases that Congress enacted less than two years ago.
Cassidy was co-sponsor of the House bill and Landrieu had worked for months to undo the 2012 Biggert-Waters reform bill which led to premium increases.
KTVE/KARD Political Analyst, Dr. John Sutherlin says this bill could be beneficial especially to Cassidy.
"The fact its known as the Cassidy amendment. The main thing is on the flood insurance, we think of it affecting people south of I-10, but this impacts people all over the state, if you're in an area prone to flooding, this is going to be relevant to you" said Sutherlin.
Two other Republicans are also in the Senate race, Rob Maness and Paul Hollis.
