Little Rock -- Gov. Mike Beebe has signed Arkansas' 'private option' into law for another year.

Through the private option, Arkansas is using federal Medicaid funds to purchase private insurance for low-income residents. Nearly 94,000 people are receiving subsidized insurance through the program, the first of its kind approved by the federal government.

Beebe tweeted out "Today's renewal of the Private Option means that 100,000+ Arkansans will keep their insurance, and tens of thousands more will get coverage."

The program's was approved this week by the house on its fifth vote.
