VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY) - A Ville Platte mother is speaking out after her son was choked and body slammed by a school security guard at Evangeline Central.
Nirca Alfred says she found out about the incident not through the school but from the revealing condition of her son after arriving home.
"He said Mr. Sterling body slammed me and choked me. I said he did what!?" says Alfred.
Nirca Alfred says her son was in class and asked to use the restroom and after the teacher declined, security guard Sterling Coleman arrived.
"When the officer came, he said no he wouldn't bring him to the bathroom so my son told them some profanity names," says Alfred.
She says that's when Coleman choked and body slammed her son.
"He said I'm hurting...my back and my side is hurting...he said my throat is hurting," says Alfred.
She took him to the hospital.
After hearing and seeing what happened first hand, the hospital called the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office.
Deputies are now investigating the case.
Alfred says she plans to press charges in the case and hopes to save other students from having a similar experience.
"My child was not the only child who was abused. They have a couple kids that have been abused and they got other kind of abuse going on so they really need to see what's going on because kids do not deserve that," says Alfred.
Administrators at Evangeline Central tell me Coleman is still working at the school.
As for the school board, there's been no response to KLFY's questions.
