St. Paul Baptist Church up and running after devastating fire

RAYVILLE - Members of St. Paul Baptist Church recount how they felt when they learned their beloved church was burned to ashes, saying that it hurt and the act was devastating.

The Richland Parish Sheriff's Department says the fire was a case of arson. However, weeks later church resumed as normal in the original church home.

Pastor of St. Paul Baptist says the damages are only superficial, "It was just the building that got burned down. The church didn't so we was just the regular thing we was just having church."

It is believed by church goers that everything happens for a reason, "We're going to worship the Lord no matter what, buildings don't stop us, disasters don't stop us, we're going to continue to be who we are in the Lord," says Church Officer Zachary Simons.

The suspect in the arson case is a 15 year old from Caldwell Parish. According to members of the congregation, people expect them to hate who committed the crime. However, they say that's against their morals.

The only thing to be done is to move forward says Simons, "We can't let whatever disaster or tragedy deter us from still honoring and worshipping our God."

Richland State Bank currently has a St. Paul Baptist Rebuild Fund. Anyone interested in donating can visit here for more information.
