WEST MONROE -- Congressman Bill Cassidy has picked up an endorsement in his bid to unseat Senator Mary Landrieu.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is throwing his support behind Cassidy.

In his endorsement, Gingrich says Cassidy's medical background serving the uninsured "makes him uniquely qualified to help dismantle Obamacare and replace it with common-sense conservative reforms."

Cassidy will be among the Republicans from Louisiana and across the country addressing the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans.

Governor Jindal addressed the group on its opening day as well as 'Duck Dynasty' patriarch Phil Robertson.

The list of those speaking at the conference includes former and quite possibly future Presidential candidates.
The conference continues through Saturday.

And a bill that gives Louisiana drivers an extra two years before their license expires is headed to Governor Jindal for his signature.

The State Senate agreed to the changes made by House lawmakers.

The bill extends the length of time Louisiana driver's licenses remain valid from four to six years.

It also increases the basic license fees from $28.50 to $42.75.
