WEB EXTRA: Cemetery Cleanup Outrage
By NBC News
(WPSD) People with loved ones in a Kentucky cemetery are outraged after finding holes in the ground where decorations and grave markers used to be.
"Everything look like it's gone," said Johnny Cotton as he walked to his family plot at Piney Grove after hearing it had been disturbed.
"They cleared that grave. They took a bench out of here," said his sister Shirley.
She eventually found some of their decorations after three hours of searching through the pile of broken statues, foot stones, and even grave markers that were jerked up out of the ground.
A newspaper article is all the notice Shirley and others with family members buried at Piney Grove Cemetery in Caldwell County got. There was a small paragraph in the February fifth edition of The Dawson Springs Progress asking people to remove any gravesite decorations that weren't attached to the headstone or grave marker.
