West Monroe -- State Senator Neil Riser says he's getting closer to making a decision about whether or not to run for Congress in the fall.

Riser tells our partners, LA Politics.com, that he'll make a decision within the next week if he will be running for Congress.

Meanwhile, a new poll from the Glascock Group gives Riser and edge in a hypothetical runoff against Congressman Vance McAllister 53 to 47 percent.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's defeat is leading to shakeup on Capitol Hill and it may benefit a Louisiana Congressman.

Congressman Steve Scalise, already the chairman of Republican Study Committee, will run for the position of House majority whip.

Scalise has eyed the position for some time, but finalized his plans after Cantor's defeat in Virginia's 7th District primary.

And Congressman Bill Cassidy is getting support from the Louisiana Republican Party in his bid to unseat Senator Mary Landrieu.

Cassidy is already receiving support from the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

This support likely does more damage to Republican State Representative Paul Hollis, who is also mounting a campaign for Senate.

Rob Maness is also running for Senate. He recently picked up the endorsement of the Tea Party Express and former Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.
