Pastor Convicted of Federal Sex Crimes to Face Caddo Jury
By KTAL 6
SHREVEPORT (KTAL) -- Our sister station in Shreveport, KTAL, reports troubles continue to mount for a Shreveport pastor who in February was convicted on sex crimes in U.S. District court in February.
On Wednesday morning, a Caddo Parish District judge set a trial date of October 20, 2014 for Andrea Lewis, who is accused of five counts of molestation of a juvenile.
Last week, Lewis was sentenced to six and one half years in the federal penitentiary and is in federal custody now. He did not attend Wednesday morning’s court proceedings.
Lewis, pastor of Act of Faith Ministries in Shreveport, was first arrested by Shreveport police on August 13, 2012 and charged with three counts of molestation of a juvenile, and was released two days later after posting a $100,000 property bond.
His freedom was short-lived, however. Lewis was arrested 10 days later on two additional molestation of a juvenile charges. He remained in jail untIl September, when an additional bond of $50,000 per count was set; he then bonded out of CDC again.
As his state case made its way through the district court systems, Lewis was free for about a year. But then, a federal grand jury indicted Lewis on three counts of transporting a minor (across state lines) with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity, and Lewis was arrested in November 2013, and has been in jail ever since.
In a Nov. 25 2013 bond hearing, U.S. Magistrate Mark Hornsby refused to set bond for Lewis, because he found it “extremely clear” that Lewis is a child predator with multiple victims and “a danger to the community, a danger to minors.”
Lewis continued to be incarcerated until his trial in February, when a federal jury convicted him on all three counts. He continues to be in federal custody; federal agents will escort him to his trial in Caddo District Court.
