Attempted Union Parish Scrap Metal Thefts Land Two in Jail
UNION PARISH (KTVE/KARD and UPSO) -- Last week, a Union Parish resident noticed a vehicle with a trailer parked at an abandoned residence he owns so he blocked the vehicle so it couldn’t leave and called authorities.
Union Parish sheriff’s deputies arrived to find the man and a Bernice police officer already on the scene detaining the couple along with five children ages two to 15 years old.
Sheriff Dusty Gates said deputies arrested Dwight Luther Spivey, 30, of 203 Simpson Rd., Dubach, and Kashunta L. Dawson, 29, of 160 Sixth St., Bernice, and charged them with simple burglary and criminal trespass.
They were booked into the parish detention center with bond set at $7,100 each. belonging to him and reported about $1,000 in damages to the house.
Spivey told deputies that Dawson had asked him to help load the scrap metal.
Dawson told the deputies that her “Uncle Eddie” said it would be alright to get the scrap metal.
She could not tell deputies his last name or furnish any more information on her “Uncle Eddie.”
The children were released to relatives Friday (July 18) afternoon.
